Barn Cat Program
This program helps find homes for cats who may have difficulty as a companion animal
We are looking for cat lovers who have a barn or other secure outdoor structure who are interested in adopting cats that are not suitable for indoor pet placement. Cat temperaments range from feral to friendly.
For our barn cat candidates, we provide:
- first set of distemper shots
- general exam
- rabies vaccination
- Felv/FIV testing
- nutritious food
- future veterinary care when needed
- a permanent protected place to live
This program is designed to find homes for cats that may be unaccustomed to enjoying human companionship and prefer the outdoors. They may want little attention from people but that can change in time and with patience. If you have a safe, warm barn or other outbuilding and would like to fill it with a cat or two, or have wanted an indoor/outdoor cat, please call or come by the shelter.
To help your new barn cat acclimate to his/her new surroundings we encourage you to plan to keep him isolated in a small area within your outbuilding initially, later confined to the outbuilding and later still, given access to the outdoors. Taking the time for this acclimation will set you and your kitty up for success! We will be glad to go over these details and more.
Please pick up an application/program specifics form for this program at the shelter or you may download the information Barn/Feral Cat Adoption Form
These cats are available at a greatly reduced adoption fee - please contact the Client Care Team for more information at (303) 772-1232 x0.
