Adoption Information
If you are interested in adopting an animal on our website, feel free to call the shelter at 303.772.1232 x233 or x247 to see if it’s still available for viewing on the adoption floor or in another area of the building. Staff can also give you more information regarding its particular needs. Then come to LHS to visit with the pet.
If you wish to continue with the adoption process, you will need to fill out an adoption Pets and People Profile form. To save time, you can download the form and fill it out beforehand. Animals cannot be put on hold until the form is completed and reviewed with you by an Animal Welfare Counselor. There is a $10 non-refundable fee for placing a hold on an animal and holds must be made in person, not by phone please. Fee funds are used to help care for the animals.
Please note: Effective March 1st, 2009 - Longmont Humane Society will not longer accept checks. Cash and Credit Cards (Visa & Mastercard) are accepted.

Wait! Before you fall in love...
Please don’t fall in love with that beautiful face just yet. First, take a moment to read about our adoption process.
The adoption of a companion animal is a commitment for life. We want to be sure that the animal you choose is the best possible fit for you. We want this adoption to be perfect for everyone.
You are free to visit the animals in the adoption area. Should there be one who seems to fit your needs based on the biography found hanging on the kennel, ask for more information at the front desk. If it seems like a good match, you can take an appropriate animal for a walk in our dog yard or sit with him in a visitation room to get to know him better.
Filling out an Adoption Questionnaire is the next step. Our Animal Welfare Counselors will review the information with you, helping you to assess whether the animal you have chosen will fit into your lifestyle, family, and home.
We encourage you to take plenty of time to make your decision. Maybe the right animal for you isn’t here today. If there are still questions, we can put an animal on hold for 24 hours ($10 Holding Fee Applies). And because all animals adopted from the Longmont Humane Society will be spayed or neutered before leaving the shelter, it may be necessary for you to wait a few days before taking your new friend home.
Before final release, you will be asked to sign an adoption contract and to pay the adoption fees. This fee includes the spay or neuter and a distemper vaccination. Detailed information about other benefits are included in handout materials that will go home with you and your new pet.
Please understand that our questions are not meant or be intrusive or suspicious. Our careful approach to making satisfying, lifelong matches can spare your family a painful experience. For the animal, however, it can be a matter of life or death. Each pet in the shelter has experienced at least one broken bond already. Another one could affect its ability to ever trust again.
So please be patient. The animals are depending on us.
