The Dogs of Cozumel

There are many places in the world where animals are treated poorly, thrown away like garbarge.  Dogs of CozumelOne of those places is in Cozumel, Mexico.  The story of men and the dogs they saved from the Cozumel garbage dump are recounted in this video on youtube.  You can also read more of their story and the work of the Cozumel Humane Society on the Cozumel Humane Society website or the IFAW website.

In an effort to address the problem of abandoned and lost homeless dogs in Cozumel, Longmont Humane Society is teaming up with the Cozumel Humane Society and the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) to find homes for some of the homeless dogsl.  Eight dogs, Astro, Chico, Joe, Maxima, Nano, Orco, Panda and Yoko, arrived at Longmont Humane Society on Wednesday, July 14th, to continue their journey to find loving forever homes.  These dogs are not the ones featured in the video, but are in need of our help, none-the-less.  By moving these dogs to the Longmont Humane Society and several other dogs to other shelters across the county, the Cozumel Humane Society will be able to help more animals, including the dogs recently evicted from the Cozumel dump.  The dogs are settling in and will go through behavior evaluations before they will be available for adoption.  They all we grateful to get out of the plane and finally have an opportunity to find homes here in our community.
