To report an animal you have found, please select one of the links below.  The information that you submit in your report will be compared with lost animal reports, and we will contact you if a possible match is found.

Lost a Pet:

If you have lost your pet, please come to the shelter to file a lost report in person and to walk through our facility to identify your animal. We no longer take lost reports over the phone, but you may fill out a report online using the appropriate link below. We suggest you come in as often as possible to check if your pet is
here. A phone call will not suffice in the event your pet is missing. Animals come through our doors 24/7, and due to the volume we may be unable to verify by phone if your pet is in our shelter. Only YOU can indentify your pet. Photos of your pet are most helpful to us along with a detailed description of your animal.

Colorado state law requires an animal be held for 72 hours after arrival. The Longmont humane Society holds an animal for a period of 5 days after which time the animal becomes legally ours if not reclaimed. This is why it is also important to check our adoption floor, as your pet may already be available for adoption.

Found a Pet:

If you have found a pet, you may still call us with information about the animal and to check if we have any matching lost reports. If the animal is wearing a city license, we can trace the owner's contact information. If you are unable to keep the animal in your care, we can instruct you how to proceed. Depending on where you reside, you may to bring the animal to us, or call an animal control officer in your area. We are also able to scan a found pet for a microchip, as many dogs and cats are not wearing collars and tags for identification.

We accept stray pets from the following jurisdictions ONLY:

  • Longmont
  • Lyons
  • Mead
  • Frederick
  • Firestone
  • Hygiene
  • Gunbarrel
  • Niwot
  • Jamestown
  • Allenspark

If you have lost or found an animal outside of the above areas, please call us for further assistance or contact animal control in your jurisdiction.

In the event your pet is here at our shelter, you will be required to pay impound fees to reclaim. Fees can vary greatly depending upon how long your animal has been here, if you are required to buy a license, etc. State law requires that all dogs and cats over 4 months are currently vaccinated against rabies, and owners must show documented proof to reclaim your pet. If you do not have proof of rabies, you must purchase a rabies voucher to be redeemed at our clinic.

Fees:

  • Impound $55
  • If wearing current Longmont city license $45
  • Care and Feeding $20 per night
  • Prepaid rabies voucher $20
  • Longmont City license (if applicable) $15 if altered/$25 if intact

* License fees apply only to Longmont residents who live w/in city limits

Please bring your driver's license or a valid ID to reclaim your pet.
We do not accept checks, but we do accept cash, Visa, Mastercard, or Discover.
