Join us for Longmont Humane Society's 18th annual spring fundraiser - Ella's Walk: In Memory of Meredith Hope Emerson. Through your support for this event, we aim to reach our goal of raising $50,000 to help us care for over 5,000 animals and find them new and loving homes.
Ella's Walk is an annual tribute to Merdith Hope Emerson to continue the loving legacy of the Longmont resident who was tragically killed in January 2008. Meredith, 24, had a deep love for animals, and adopted her beloved Labrador retriever mix, Ella, from a rescue organization. The Emerson family hopes “Ella’s Walk” will be an inspiration to all those who have been moved by her compassion for animals and people.
“Meredith was concerned with making a difference in the world,” said Susan Emerson, her mother. “We feel she would be honored to have her and Ella’s names associated with Longmont Humane Society’s dog walk. While we will always miss Meredith dearly, we know her spirit is alive and well and with us still.” Ella, 4, now lives with the Emerson family in Longmont.
Registration the day of the event begins at 8:30 a.m.
Walk begins at 9:30 a.m.
The three mile walk begins at the Boulder County Fairgrounds Picnic Shelter Park at the corner of Hover and Nelson Road and continues along the St. Vrain Greenway through Rogers Grove onto the first Golden Pond and then back to Boulder County Fairgrounds.
Walk participants are encouraged to stick around for the Furry Friends Festival at the Boulder County Fairgrounds Picnic Shelter Park after they have completed the walk. The Furry Friends Festival features a delicious brunch provided by local eateries and Mutt Main Street, an area full of pet-friendly merchants. There will also be dog-tastic demonstrations by LHS training class graduates, low-cost microchipping services for your pets, and the adoptable pet parade of LHS animals looking for their forever home.
